SUMMARY:Exploring ADHD and Sexuality in work with men who have committed se
 xual offenses - Presented by Dr. Lyne Piché
DESCRIPTION:Individuals within the criminal justice system exhibit higher r
 ates of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) than in the genera
 l population. The presence of ADHD has significant implications for assess
 ment and  treatment strategies within forensic settings. We will discuss 
 neurodiversity and sexuality with an aim to better understand the impact o
 f neurodiversity on criminal justice involvement and sexual offending. We 
 will explore the impact of ADHD on sexuality discussing key features that 
 distinguish neurodivergent clients from neurotypical clients including the
 mes related to hypersexuality\, impulsivity\,  sexual impulsivity/sexual 
 eagerness\, struggles with transitions\, distractions\, sensory issues\, s
 exual problems\, relationship problems and paraphilias. In addition\, we w
 ill outline essential treatment adaptations for this population\, includin
 g the importance of addressing ADHD as a key component to ensure risk redu
 ction. Neurodivergent friendly intervention strategies will be highlighted
  along with case studies to explore key concepts.  This presentation will
  address both juvenile and adult sexual offending committed by individuals

 yne Piché is a Registered Psychologist who has worked as a psychologist 
 specializing in sexual issues for 25 years. Her graduate studies\, researc
 h and work endeavours have been focused on improving sexual health for all
  individuals. She received her doctorate degree from the Université du Qu
 ébec à Montréal in 1998 specializing in the assessment and treatmen
 t of sexual dysfunctions and paraphilias.  Since 1998\, she has provide
 d both assessment and treatment services for men who have committed violen
 t and sexual offenses. She has worked in Canadian federal and provincial
  correctional settings throughout her career.  She is regularly invited t
 o speak on topics related to sexuality\, intimacy\, sexual offending and
  risk assessment. Since 2009\, she has provided sexual therapy\, couples c
 ounselling\, relationship counselling  and trauma counselling in her pr
 ivate practice. Dr. Piché is an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist.   
  In 2023\, she co-authored the book Working with Offenders who View Onli
 ne Child Sexual Exploitation Images.  The intersection of ADHD and sexual
  therapy has been a particular interest of hers in recent years. Her new
