This interactive full-day training will provide participants information on compassion fatigue and the opportunity to explore their own experience of compassion fatigue. Discussion about how to manage compassion fatigue and develop resilience will also prompt participants to develop a self-care plan. Presentation and discussion will be specific to professionals working with individuals who have committed sexual offenses.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • Historical developments in the understanding of compassion fatigue in the field of caregiving
  • Recent research of compassion fatigue in professionals working with individuals who have committed sexual offenses
  • The psychological and neurobiological underpinnings of compassion fatigue
  • Secondary traumatic stress and burnout
  • Resilience
  • Strategies to develop resilience
